Weight Control for Pets
an Animal Aid Workshop

Thursday, 1/21/10, 7:30-8:30 pm
Presented by Dr. Kathy Sandifer,
Oswego Veterinary Hospital

"Plump" is not "pleasant" for your pet! Excess weight is, in fact, a primary contributor to a whole host of preventable medical problems. Just how do you determine what IS the right weight? And how do you return that butterball to her prior svelte state without jeopardizing your relationship? This "humans only" seminar will help you take the first step.

This event is part of Animal Aid's low-cost "Happy, Healthy Family Pet" 2010 workshop series focusing on "the Woes of Winter". To learn more about all of the classes in this series, visit http://www.AnimalAidPDX.org/education

$10 donation to Animal Aid, payable at the workshop. Pre-registration is not required, but is very much appreciated! Call 503-244-2060, email classes@AnimalAidPDX.org, or sign up at the PetUtopia counter next time you shop.

On the Ball:
Core Strengthening
& Hindquarter Awareness
an Animal Aid Workshop

Sunday, 2/21/10, 5:30-7:30 pm
Presented by:  Bobbie Lyons, Pawsitive Performance

When you can't be outside, working with a Theraball is a great way to exercise your dog's mind and body as well as strengthen its core muscles. Regular Theraball use can also increase the range of motion, flexibility, improve reflexes, and lead to increased muscle tone and endurance. This workshop could be one of the most important things you ever do with your dog.

This event is part of Animal Aid's low-cost "Happy, Healthy Family Pet" 2010 workshop series focusing on "the Woes of Winter". To learn more about all of the classes in this series, visit http://www.AnimalAidPDX.org/education

We are collecting various items for several non-profits.

Help us help them!

  Project Pooch 'Wish List' Collections

Although Project POOCH rents kennel space at a state facility,  they do not receive government funding so individual support is essential to their program. Any donation, no matter how small, makes a big difference!

Project Pooch's "Wish List" of items that they need in order to be successful in their program is listed below. We now have a collection box in our entry, along with a picture board with bios of the dogs that have graduated from the program & are ready for adoption. We hope to be able to make an impact in the lives of the people and dogs in this great program.  http://www.pooch.org/

Cat Adoption Team Cat Food Bank Collections

We are still collecting cat food and litter for the CAT (Cat Adoption Team) Cat Food Bank to help cat owners who needed assistance during the economic downturn affecting the country. News reports from across the country paint a depressing picture for pet owners - more pets are relinquished to shelters due to the rising cost of care and some pet owners are forced to feed their animals food directly from their own plate to keep expenses down. This first of its kind food bank is open once a month at CAT’s Sherwood shelter and provides enough cat/kitten food to feed up to four owned cats for a month.

We also have some lovely earrings, made by one of our favorite customers, Terry Vinocur, for sale.  All proceeds go to CAT for the Cat Food Bank. catadoptionteam.org/

PAW Team
Veterinary Services
for Portland’s Homeless Community

Food Donations

We are also collecting food for this group. We donated items from our Doggie Clothes Swap in May. When Chelle, the PAW Team Donations Manager, came to pick up the donatied goods, she said she usually has 500 pounds of food to distribute at their events, but this year she has only 50 pounds!  If your dog decides he/she doesn’t like their food any longer, pls. bring the remainder of the bag to us, and we will share it with the PAW Team.  Remember, animal companions are a lifeline for people experiencing homelessness, extreme poverty or income-limiting disabilities. To someone with few resources, a pet is a family member, a source of stability and unconditional love in a cold world. Caring for a pet helps people stay sober and drug-free. Keeping animals on the streets vaccinated and free of disease is also beneficial to the entire community. The PAW Team strives to make life a little bet better for these pets and their caregivers. At their free veterinary "street" clinics, they offer vaccinations and basic health care, pet food and supplies, and coupons for spay/neuter services. Local vet clinics assist with emergency services throughout the year. http://www.portlandanimalwelfareteam.org

And, last but not least ....

We truly appreciate your continued support in all we do in the community!

Without you we would not have made it to our 3rd anniversary.  To see what you, as one person, can do help a community visit the3_50project.net. The numbers are profound.
